People think that the OpenJDK and GCJ versions of Java are the same as the Sun version, but a LOT of popular software just doesn't work with those non-Sun versions. This is still a workaround though: the SOLR packages should have a proper dependency that guarantee they work after installation. Alternatively, Ant supports the notion of a compiler adapter, allowing you to plug in your own Java compiler, such as the Java compiler that is built into Eclipse. You can add items to Ants classpath from the Ant > Runtime preference page. Need programmers to hire ? And which version of Java?

well you can select the JRE by going to the Window-->Preferences-->JAVA-->Editor-->Installed JRE .
