I would connect to the internet, and I would try to load a web page. useful reference Before I upgraded to OS 3.0 my wifi worked fine even with the WEP key activated which is obviously what I want for security. What fixed it for me was the router (724V) was limiting the number of devices allowed to connect to it. Finally, I just went to the router and hit the reset button and It works now.
